  1. I think that if you're reading this book that you need to pay attention because the main character Mary doesnt have the best grammar in the world. I wonder when this book starts to get intersesting because Mrs. Parent says that it starts out slow but then it actually picks up. Right now I can't tell if I like this book or not. I'll just have to keep reading and then I'll find out.

  3. I don't really like this book right now, but I have to keep reading to see if it gets better. Mary doesn't have good grammer and sometimes it's hard to understand what she's saying. The book is kind of weird right now too.

  5. Kiri,
Did you find the part about Mary living on the streets as an orphan interesting? What about when she chooses to pose as a boy (wearing her dead friend's clothing!!!!) and set sail on the HMS Dolphin.

  7. Corrina,
What kind of meaning does this book have to you? Can you give me some examples?

  8. I think the book is getting good now. I can't believe the main character Mary is pretending to be a boy so she can work on a ship! I feel bad for her because her best friend got killed.

  9. Mrs.Parent,
The meaning says that girls can be pirates

  10. Victoria,
When you go back and reread, does it make more sense? It is tricky writing. It takes place in the 18th century in England, so British English is spoken. The "pirate talk" is fun but hard to understand as well. I did a lot of rereading when I first read this.
What is your favorite part so far?

  11. Ms. Parent,
The book doesn't really capture my interest. Maybe it still needs to pick up. I think it would be hard to be Jacky because she is really a girl named Mary and she's on ship full of boys. She has to make sure that no one sees who she truly is. I don't see how she could live with wearing her own friend's clothes when he just passed away.

  12. Victoria, I agree that the book starts to get interesting when she joins the crew. Super sad about her friend. I agree with all of you when you say the book is weird. It definitely starts out weird.

  13. Corrina, what else????

  14. It is starting to make m ore sense because I'm getting use to how she talks. My favorite part so far is when she firsts gets on the ship and meets the boys.

  15. Daniela,
I like the your last sentence. It does make you wonder where this will all go and how it will turn out...

  17. To all of you:
If you were an orphan, living on the streets, how many of you would have done what Mary did? What were her other options? What kind of a kid so you think she is> describe her.

  18. Have any of you gotten to the part where the title, Bloody Jack, comes in?

  19. What questions do any of you have?
Is there anything, or any parts that are confusing?

  20. Well I would do the same thing its better than saving,That was mean, but Mary is a non-giving up person she will risk it all for a better life.

  21. If I was an orphan living on the streets I would try to find other orphans and try to survive with them. I think that I might have done the whole begging thing, but not so much the stealing. I think that her other options were to maybe try to find a family that would take her in and take care of her. I think that she is brave to act as a boy and join a pirate ship. She is pretty smart compared to what the other ship boys are like. I found it kind of funny how she thought she was dying, but then again sorry for her too.

  22. One of the parts at the very beginning of this book that I thought was interesting was that Mary/Jacky, wasn't always an orphan or poor. It was so sad that her wealthy family died of the plague and there was no one to take care of her. I wonder where all the family's money went? What happened to the house she lived in? It is amazing to me how quickly life can change.

  23. If I were an orphan living on the streets I think I would have done what she did because she didn't really have any other options. I think she's someone who doesn't judge people.

  26. I think you are right Corrina, it probably would be close to impossible to save as an orphan. I think you are also right that she is not one to give up.

  27. If you did what she did (go on a ship and pretend to be a boy) would you be scared like all the time that you would be found out?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Victoria,
I would be paranoid the whole time I was on the ship because you never know if someone else on the ship has a hunch that you might actually be a girl, and you could just get thrown of the ship in an instant.

    What would you do Victoria?

    ReplyDelete
  29. If I was an orphan I would do the same thing that Mary did because I would have some where to say and some thing to eat but I would be scared because I would not know what would happen if they found out I was a girl

    ReplyDelete
  30. um...Daniela what do you think of the book?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Corrina,
How would you feel being the only girl on a pirate ship, disguised as a boy, and having to be careful around the ship so no one finds out you're a girl?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Corrina yes I am likeing the book it is starting to get better and better because I did not think I would like the book but I did and now I want to keep on reading this book

    ReplyDelete
  33. If I did what she did I would be really paranoid too! I would be scared that they'd throw me into the water and then I'd drown.

    ReplyDelete
  34. -Kiri are you still not likeing the book or are you interested in it now?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Victoria,
Haha. I would feel the same. Jacky actually found this ship where she can live on and just because she's a girl, it can all just get swept away from her quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have to agree with Victoria on that one because as rough as they are they might.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey corrina what do you like best about the book is it Mary/Jacky because I know I like her character and what she dose

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would hate to have to pretend to be a boy! I would be paranoid like I said before. Since everyone thinks she's a boy they treat her like a boy.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Corrina,
Uhmm... I don't really like the book still, but I'm not going to stop in the middle of the book right now. Even though I don't really enjoy reading this book, I still want to see what happens to Jacky.

  40. what will you do if you were discoverd that you were a girl by another women?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Daniela,
What's your favorite characteristic about Mary/Jacky?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well she was discovered by another woman because she thought she was going to die, but she was actually on her period. But if I was discovered by another women on the ship, I would tell her not to tell anyone. And hope she wouldn't tell.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kiri I like that she is out going also I like her because she is brave and dose not give up becuse she is a girl it shows me that girls can do anything they put there minds to

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well...
IF there just happened to be another woman on the ship that's doing the same thing that Jacky is doing, I don't think it would matter much if they found out about each other. I think it would make them more comfortable on the ship knowing that there's someone else on the ship like themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I also feel bad for her because she had another friend die, but this time it was on the ship. What would you do if one of your friends died?

  46. TO ALL YOU GUYS HOW DO YOU GUYS FELL ABOUT MARY/JACKY WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT HER

    ReplyDelete
  47. I can't believe Jacky/Mary told Jaimy that she was a girl!!!
I wonder who he's going to treat her now.
    I don't think he'll snitch on her.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I wonder if he's going to confess that he loves her like she loves him!

    Do you think he will?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm wondering that too Victoria.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think he will though, Corrina.
    =]

  51. I think that it's going to be awkward between Jaimy and Jacky now. I don't think that he will snitch on her though.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think that they're ganna be w/ eachother, but behind everyones back. =]

And I don't think he'll snitch on her because it seems like he likes her, and if he does that would be messed up!!!
